Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar Educational and Social Trust (IVEST)

Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar Educational and Social Trust (IVEST) was formed on June/2013 at Kolkata, West Bengal by a group of people from academic and professional fields. Its Registered Office is at 106 Purbadiganta, Santoshpur Kolkata –700075, India.

As the name suggests, the Trust has been established following the principles of the great educationist and social reformer of Bengal, Shri Iswarchandra Vidyasagar. The main purpose of the Trust is to establish an educational and social public charitable trust to identify and provide financial assistance to meritorious students from socially and economically backward families/communities presently residing in West Bengal for their pursuing higher studies and other public charitable causes.

As the name suggests, the Trust has been established following the principles of the great educationist and social reformer of Bengal, Shri Iswarchandra Vidyasagar. The main purpose of the Trust is to establish an educational and social public charitable trust to identify and provide financial assistance to meritorious students from socially and economically backward families/communities presently residing in West Bengal for their pursuing higher studies and other public charitable causes.

Initial corpus of the Trust was Rs.10 lakh received as donation from Dr Santanu Datta, chairman of the Trust.The trust in due course may procure such other properties (both moveable and immoveable) as may be acquired from time to time by bequest, purchase, exchange, grant, subscription, settlement, donation, contribution, income, or in any manner whatsoever on the trust.

The objects of the Trust are as follows, provided that all of the said objects and all of the activities of the trust are confined to India, and shall be carried on without any profit motive and shall be conducted without any distinction or discrimination, whether on account of gender, caste, creed, religion or race or otherwise.

To identify and select meritorious students from socially and economically backward families/communities presently in West Bengal, who have successfully completed their secondary/madhyamik or equivalent and wish to pursue their higher studies in any subject of the selected student’s choice;

To provide financial assistance through scholarships, loans, grants, stipends, prizes, rewards, allowances and other financial assistance in such form as may be determined by the board of trustees from time to time, to such identified and selected students from socially and economically backward families/communities presently in West Bengal, who have completed their secondary/madhyamik or equivalent  education, for the purposes of pursuing their higher studies in schools, colleges, educational institutions, technical institutions, art schools, institutions teaching commercial and other arts including teaching of vocational or cultural arts or other training, research or educational works in West Bengal or outside West Bengal, in any place in India.

To undertake other objects of service for the promotion of education and education related activities, such as acquiring property by developing or otherwise supporting and making such property available, for example, and without limitation, establishing, supporting or housing a public library, community hall, or organizing conferences or other educational related activities.

To publish and support the publishing of books, pamphlets, periodicals and newspapers in India including e-learning for the spread and advancement of education and culture and issues related to youth from socially and economically backward families/communities and To generally do such other things as are deemed necessary, incidental or useful to the attainment of one or more of the above objects.
